Kristi Lynn Richardson, 61, a widow and owner of Richardson Trucking in Casper, Wyoming, was last seen and heard from on the evening of October 6, 2014. That evening she stopped at the nearby home of her daughter, Amber Fazio, to drop off a birthday card, and a neighbor later saw her car pull into her own garage. At approximately 7:45 p.m. she spoke by phone with an employee of her company; a call placed to her cellphone at 11 p.m. that night went unanswered. When Richardson failed to arrive at work the next morning, October 7, her daughter and son-in-law went to her home on East 24th Street in Casper and found it locked. Inside, they found her purse — containing a large amount of cash and her identification — on the kitchen counter and her cellphone on the bed; her garage door opener, normally kept in her purse, was missing, and stains resembling blood or urine were found on her bedsheets. None of her vehicles had been taken, and there were no signs of forced entry or a struggle. Richardson is a white female, 5'4", with graying auburn hair and brown eyes; reported weight at the time of her disappearance ranges from approximately 100 to 115 pounds across sources. She was last seen wearing denim capri pants, a solid-colored shirt, and flats, and may also have been wearing a brown University of Wyoming hooded sweatshirt with a gold bucking-horse logo on the back.
The Casper Police Department initially investigated Richardson's disappearance as a possible murder or abduction, executing a search warrant on her business office days after she vanished. In May 2017, the Casper Police Department transferred the case to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at the request of interim police leadership. Investigators identified a person of interest, a former employee of Richardson Trucking who had sent Richardson letters expressing romantic interest; he has never been charged and has denied any involvement. A 2017 lawsuit against the City of Casper raised questions about the department's handling of the investigation and asked whether it was connected to the unrelated 2015 suicide of a Casper businessman; Richardson's daughter has stated she has no personal knowledge of any such connection. In April 2024, a human skull found in Wyoming's Red Desert in November 2023 was determined by the Sweetwater County coroner to belong to a man aged 25–35, ruling out any connection to Richardson.
