Thomas Jay Kerr, then 37, was last seen in the early morning hours of September 26, 1997, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the vicinity of Flamingo and Sandhill roads. He had visited Mugshots Lounge, a bar in the 3300 block of South Sandhill Road that he frequented, during the late evening of September 25, paying his tab there before he disappeared; Mugshots Lounge was, at the time, joined to or directly adjacent to the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel. He was last confirmed seen at a family member's residence in the vicinity of the 3600 block of Forestcrest, across the street from both the bar and the hotel.
He left behind all of his personal belongings, including a dented Ford pickup truck, tools, his wallet, car keys, camping equipment and jewelry; family members described it as uncharacteristic of him to leave without notice. Kerr is described as biracial, White and Native American, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall and 215 to 225 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes, a scar near his left ear and one on his front hairline, and a previously broken arm and jaw.
Investigators have said there is little physical evidence in the case but that foul play is suspected; several potential suspects have been identified over the years, but none has been arrested for lack of evidence. Kerr worked as a carpet layer and electrician at the time he went missing and was known to frequent Mount Potosi, southwest of Las Vegas, for camping.
