Case Details
Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office
Crime
The victim was found in 2010 in an irrigation ditch behind a berry field near Casserly Road in the Watsonville area of Santa Cruz County. Investigators determined the victim was a young Hispanic male who had suffered significant head trauma, and the death was treated as a homicide.
Investigators noted an unusual physical characteristic: both arms reportedly had deformities that prevented full extension at the elbows. This was considered a potentially identifying feature. The victim was determined be approximately four feet eleven inches tall. The case remains listed as an unidentified homicide victim for years in national unidentified-person databases.
He was found Sept. 9 in a wooded area next to a farm on the 300 block of Casserly Road, and authorities said the man suffered a violent death. A clay and Bones reconstruction head was created based on the victim's remains.
