Case Details:Lyle Hunter Long Warrior Jr., a 5-year-old boy from Pierre, South Dakota, was last seen on May 29, 1994, walking with a 12-year-old boy on a railroad bridge over the Missouri River in Pierre. According to that boy's account to investigators, he had dropped his watch on the bridge, and Long Warrior leaned over to try to retrieve it, slipped, and fell into the river below. A differing account holds that the older boy dangled Long Warrior over the bridge railing and he fell approximately 20 feet into the water. Long Warrior, an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of the Rosebud Indian Reservation who went by his middle name, Hunter, disappeared into the river and was never seen again. He is Native American, with black hair and brown eyes, and stood between 3 feet and 3 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 40 to 50 pounds at the time. No information about his clothing at the time has been published.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is the lead investigating agency. An extensive search of the river and surrounding area turned up no sign of Long Warrior or his remains, and he has never been found. The boy who was with him was charged as a juvenile with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in connection with the incident; because he was charged as a juvenile, his identity was not made public, and the outcome of the case against him is unknown.
