Case Details:On January 26, 1997, a hiker found human skeletal remains in a heavily wooded area of the Shenandoah National Park, about 10 miles south of Front Royal in Virginia. The remains were approximately 150 yards off of the Appalachian Trail near Hogwallow. There were no evidence of a campsite nearby, no camping gear located in or around, or other personal belongings were located near the discovery and park representatives stated that there were no open investigations for missing persons or abandoned vehicles. Forensic examination and analysis determined that the remains belong to an adult White male, under 70, (most likely between 45 to 65 ) years old, approximately 5 foot 6 inches to 5 foot 8 inches tall in life. The examination also revealed that he had slightly right-deviating facial features, wore a porcelain fused to metal dental bridge and had an old fracture to the right wrist. He was wearing a short sleeved large tan shirt with the label "Authentic Mountain Tex", tan pants with legs that zip-off, no label, a size 29" black synthetic belt in the belt loops of the pants, green socks, and a red, green, and white bandana in pants pocket. He was wearing size 11-1/2 brown hiking boots with "Raichle" on the soles and both shoe tongues were missing. It is estimated that he had been deceased for approximately eight months before being discovered in the Park, placing his death around April-May of 1996.
