NCOUC - Group 3
Missing or Unidentified Person
Leona Sharon Kinsey, 45 year-old biracial white and Native American woman (Puyallup Tribe) of La Grande, Oregon, was last seen at her trailer home on Hall Street in La Grande on or about October 24–25, 1999. A friend reported that Kinsey said she planned to stop at a grocery store to meet a man known as Juan “John” Pena-Llamas, and then come to the friend's house around 7 p.m. that evening; she never arrived.
When the friend went to check on her, Kinsey was not home. All of her belongings, including her purse, cigarettes, lighter, and pager — had been left behind, along with her cat and two dogs; coffee remained in the coffeepot and groceries had been left out. Kinsey's light golden-brown 1980s-model GMC Jimmy was found four days later, on October 28–29, 1999, in the parking lot of an Albertsons store in La Grande; the store manager said he did not believe the vehicle had been there overnight. The steering column showed damage, and a box of rubber gloves was found behind the driver's seat. There was no evidence of a struggle at the residence.
