In late 2005, Haux's 1993 purple Ford Ranger pickup was located approximately six miles from where he was last seen, its front tires mired in a collapsed riverbank in the Adobe Town area of the Red Desert, with a broken shovel and wood pieces wedged beneath the tires and a red suitcase of his clothing left in the unlocked cab. The rig co-worker who was last with Haux was interviewed but has not been named a person of interest or charged in connection with the disappearance. Investigators state there is no evidence to date of foul play, violence, or a criminal encounter, and the case is currently classified as an accidental/lost-persons disappearance.
