Maureen Fields, a 41‑year‑old white female living in Pahrump, Nevada, was last seen at 8:00 a.m. on February 15, 2006, by her husband, Paul Fields. Paul, a 56‑year‑old white male, reported that the two had argued that morning and Maureen left for her job at the Wells Fargo branch in Pahrump. She never arrived. Maureen was approximately 5'5" to 5'6", weighed between 140 and 160 pounds, had brown hair and blue eyes, and had a titanium jaw implant identifiable by a unique serial number.
On February 16, 2006, Maureen’s green 2004 Hyundai was discovered in Inyo County, California, about twelve miles west of the Nevada border. The vehicle was stuck in sand roughly 125 feet off the roadway, near Tecopa, California. Her keys were in the ignition, the driver’s seat was fully reclined, and slippers and eyeglasses were found beneath the gas pedal. Inside the car were her prescription medication, contact lenses, and purse containing her credit cards. Nearby on the ground, investigators found a blanket with traces of blood and vomit, along with knotted pantyhose. Multiple searches—including two conducted by Texas EquuSearch—yielded no sign of Maureen. After initial interviews and a search of the Fields' home, Paul ceased all communication with law enforcement.
In 2012, DNA belonging to Keith Wayne Holmes, a registered sex offender with two prior child‑molestation convictions, was identified on the knotted pantyhose. Police confirmed Holmes had been in the Pahrump area in 2006, was in his mid-50's at the time, and interviewed him several times. Unfortunately at the time of the interviews, Holmes was suffering from dementia. Holmes claimed he had consensual sex with Maureen and left her alive in Death Valley on February 15, 2006. He also stated he knew Paul, but he didn't provide any further information about Maureen's disappearance. He died in prison hospice in April 2014.
