Andrew Jon Lufkins, known as A.J., was 23 years old and living in Sisseton, South Dakota, a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, at the time of his disappearance. On the evening of April 7, 2010, Lufkins was at the American Legion in Sisseton, where witnesses reported he got into a physical fight with as many as three other men sometime between approximately 9:00 p.m. and midnight. Witnesses said Lufkins was seriously injured and unconscious when he was carried out of the bar. He has not been seen or heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt with a South Pole logo, a dark-colored jersey with light blue accents worn over the sweatshirt, a white T-shirt underneath, tan pants or blue jeans, a blue bandana, and blue-and-white K-Swiss sneakers.
The case has been investigated by the Sisseton Police Department, the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Police Department, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the FBI. Two men were charged in connection with the case, but the charges were dropped after more than a dozen witnesses declined to testify; no one has been charged in Lufkins's disappearance since. The Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate offered a reward for information, which was reported to have grown to $10,000. Lufkins is classified as an Endangered Missing person, and foul play is suspected in his disappearance, which remains unsolved.
